Hello, my name is Jessica Willis and am a sophomore at Florida State University. I spent my time during this pandemic training my dog I rescued last year. I have also been binging shows on Netflix, drawing, and sitting in my friends driveways in order to maintain social distancing. As of recently I have been reading more as well as playing on my PlayStation. It has been hard finding things to keep me entertained since I hate performing repetitive tasks however having to stay in my house and quarantine has not been as bad as I thought it would, although I do miss going out and traveling.
Before this class, I have hardly used technology related to education. Some platforms I have used in the past for school related activities are websites such as TurnItIn and Edmodo, an app similar to Facebook which allows students and teachers to post information and communicate outside the classroom. I have also used Microsoft PowerPoint and Word to complete projects and essays. I have also used the website Prezi in order to both watch presentations created by my teachers or classmates, as well as create my own presentations. Each platform was challenging to get used to and discover all the features however the more I used them the more comfortable I became with them.
Personal learning networks I normally use are friends with common interests, Zoom, Canvas, and google. If I have a question or do not understand something, whether it's class related or in general, I can use these tools to help me understand better. I also use social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat that allows me to discover what is going on in the world through posts and videos. I am in several group chats with fellow classmates that also allow me to discuss things that may confuse me as well as expand on ideas or thoughts about an assignment.
Hi Jessica, during the summer I watched TV shows where dogs were trained by an expert. I thought it was similar to raise a child. Do you have your dog PLN? Who do you talk to or follow through social media to get advice? Do you participate in any offline or online communities to get some information, knowledge, skills, or any resources about dog and dog training? PLN is growing over time and it can be both formal and informal. In this class, we will learn many social media to build teacher PLN for PD.
ReplyDeleteI have a small dog PLN! I get advice from two different training companies and communicate with them both over text, in person, and social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. I participate in both in person classes as well as zoom classes to learn more about dog training.
DeleteHi Jessica! I also have been doing better than expected despite quarantine. It gives me a chance to read the books I've been postponing and finish all of Game of Thrones in a month. I can also relate to not using technology related to education that much before this class. I find that I am not very tech savvy for a Gen X kid. I enjoyed reading your blog post!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bella! Reading definitely helps pass time, especially now when we have nothing else to do except school. I am watching Game of Thrones next month, I've heard nothing but how great of a show it is.
DeleteJessica! I love that you know how to play on PlayStation. I'm not super tech savvy, but I bought an Nintendo Switch over quarantine. Animal Crossing is my favorite game!
ReplyDeleteHey Mel! I am a triplet and have two brothers so I have grown up with all gaming consoles from the Nintendo 360 to the PlayStation 4. I do not have a switch yet! I was planning on buying one for Christmas, Animal Crossing is a super fun game I can't wait to be able to play on my own console!
